Goodbye My Old Friend

We lost Mallory this morning to his fight with what we believe to be bone cancer. He went out the doggie door after breakfast and we heard him screaming and found him laying on the deck, unable to stand. We calmed him down, and I was able to pick him up and carry him into the house, but he was in great pain when I put him on the front bed in a standing position. It was evident that he wasn't going to be able to put any weight on that leg again and so I cradled him in my lap and we made the call to the Vet's office. Dr Steve came to the house and we sent the big goofy boy to be with his sister Lily.

God speed Mr Mallory, and may all your days be filled with nice big pits to dig and lay in and may marrow bones always be with you. We'll never forget you and the hole in my heart is much bigger than your pit in the back yard.

Good Bye my couch buddy! I love you! You made my life so much happier. Thanks for always sharing your couch with me & for always looking out for your cousin. May you always have an abundant supply of rawhides, peanut butter, nuggies, cookies & all of your favorite things. May you forever have a pit to dig in, a place to run & a big fluffy couch to lay on. May you never be in pain again. Take care of your sister & your cousins.
I consider myself among the lucky ones because I got to spend time with you. You will always have a very special place in my heart!!
I love you Mallory!
Love,

Mallory,
I love you very much & am so sad that you aren't here anymore. But my mom says that you aren't hurting anymore. Thanks for teaching my mom to love big dogs. She says that you helped her to become my mom. Thanks for teaching me about the pit, rawhides, cookies, peanut butter & the couch. I'll always love you, Mal. I'm very lucky that you were my cousin.
Love & kisses,
Kelsey D

I know there's not much anyone can say right now to ease the pain, but Mal had the best family a hound could ever hope for and had a happy, long life. And I'm sure that Clemmie was right there to greet him this morning, wagging her extra long fuzzy tail and ready to play.
